Shirley Rae Tinney (nee Fittock) passed away peacefully at Redcliffe Palliative Care on Thursday 18 June, 2020 with her daughter Kathryn and grand-daughter Lisa by her side.
Shirley was the adored wife of Ken (deceased), much loved Mum to Ian (deceased), David and Kathryn and mother-in-law. Grand mother to Matthew, Kelly, Kimberley, Christopher, Jayde, Daniel, Justin, Lisa, Wayne, and their partners. Great grand mother to Grayson, Logan, Laytoya, Tia, Ezra, Skylah, Matilda, Aurora, Sienna, Elvia, Cohen, Hudson, Oliver, Archie and Ruby.
Born 13 September, 1935 at Caboolture hospital, Shirley was a Caboolture girl through and through. She completed her schooling at Caboolture State School and worked at the Caboolture Clothing Factory then as a PMG (Post Master’s General) telephonist.
Shirley had a love for serving the community. She was involved in the school tuckshop, football, scouts, cricket in the early years of her boy’s lives, and then becoming a driving force along with many others in the establishment of the Caboolture Netball Association in 1979.
Shirley was recognised for her community service receiving an OAM (Order of Australia) in 2003. Shirley’s service wasn’t about being acknowledged and recognized, but being part of a community that served for the greater good and forming long lasting friendships with the wonderful people she was involved with.
Shirley was also a founding volunteer as it was known then, at the Caboolture Hospital Ancillary Canteen and continued with this role until January 2020.
Shirley was the glue that bonded the family together and will be sadly missed by not only her family, but the wider community that she served.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Shirley’s life was celebrated with a ‘Memories with Shirley’ afternoon at Heartfelt Funerals on Wednesday 24 June, followed by a private cremation and a ‘Celebration of Life’ Service on Monday 29 June at the Great Northern Garden of Remembrance.

July 1, 2020 at 8:14 amSo sad to hear the news of Shirleys passing. A privilege to have met her through netball and sometimes see her at the shops or hospital. Such a beautiful lady and we send our sympathies to the whole family. Take comfort in the fact Shirley left a legacy that most of us can only dream of.
