Eileen Hook February 15, 1917 - June 29, 2019

Eileen Elsie Hook (nee Dubois) peacefully passed away with family, on 29 June 2019.
Born in Reigate, England on 15 February 1917.  She moved with her parents and siblings, at the age of 8, to Auckland, New Zealand.
After her schooling, she worked for John Courts, as well as studying part-time to gain an Honours BA Degree in Mathematics.  Later, while working for the DSIR in Auckland, as an Engineer, she transferred to Wellington where she met Lee at a dance, the man she was later to marry. She then moved back to Auckland with Lee, where they got married and Eileen trained as a Primary Teacher.
After several years spent raising their 2 children she returned to teaching Mathematics at Secondary School level until retiring but still helped those who needed extra tutoring.
Her favourite pastime was spending time in the Garden. She loved colour in the garden and propagating plants, taking cuttings whenever she passed a delightful bush.  She enjoyed many a passing hour looking at the clouds and their amazing shapes.  Eileen enjoyed her gardening right up to the last 6 months of her life.
In 2008, she moved to Australia to live with her daughter.
Eileen was a quiet woman of few words but lived a long life, of 102+ years.  She would insist that it’s due mostly to being a Vegetarian with great doses of Bananas and Chocolate.

Out of nowhere, Eileen would sometimes come out with remnants of past songs, rhymes, and poems. A couple examples include….

Life is mostly Froth and Bubble
Two things stand like stone
Kindness in another’s trouble
Courage in one’s own

And

I don’t know
And you don’t know
And neither does the Cow

And

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree….
from The Lake Isle of Innisfree by W B Yeats

Eileen has now joined her late Husband (Lee), Mother (Violet), Father (Percy), Brother (Norman) and Sister (Mollie).  Now they can all sing and dance together.

Her Daughter, Carolyn and partner Alan.  Her Son, Barry and his wife Laura. Grandchildren, Tania, Barbara, Christine, Jonathan, Michael and Vanessa each hold their own special memories.

If you can think of anything you would like to share, you are more than welcome.
Forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace

Nana, you have left a great hole.
There have already been a couple of ‘deja vu’ moments and have experienced several special memories.
May you now enjoy reconnecting with those you love and lost before.
